Ingredients:
- 225g (8 oz) noodles (lo mein, spaghetti, or your favorite)
- 500g (1 lb) ground beef
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional for spice)
- 1/2 cup beef broth or water
- 1/4 cup green onions, chopped
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water (optional for thickening)
- Sesame seeds for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
- Cook the noodles:
- Boil the noodles according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- Cook the ground beef:
- In a large skillet or wok, heat a tablespoon of oil over medium heat.
- Add the ground beef, breaking it apart with a spatula, and cook until browned and fully cooked. Drain excess fat if needed.
- Make the sauce:
- Push the cooked beef to the side of the pan and add the minced garlic and ginger. Sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Stir in the soy sauce, hoisin sauce, sesame oil, brown sugar, and red pepper flakes.
- Add the beef broth (or water) and mix everything together. Let it simmer for 2-3 minutes to combine the flavors.
- Thicken the sauce (optional):
- If you prefer a thicker sauce, stir in the cornstarch slurry (cornstarch mixed with water) and cook for another 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
- Combine noodles and beef:
- Add the cooked noodles to the skillet with the beef mixture. Toss everything together until the noodles are fully coated in the sauce.
- Finish and garnish:
- Stir in the chopped green onions and cook for another 1-2 minutes.
- Garnish with sesame seeds if desired and serve hot.
Tips:
- You can add vegetables like bell peppers, broccoli, or snap peas for extra crunch and color.
- Adjust the sweetness or saltiness of the sauce by adding more or less brown sugar and soy sauce to your taste.
